WHAT KANE SAID
After correctly naming himself as the top scorer for the past two Bundesliga seasons, Kane got it spot on for Niclas Fullkrug for 2023, Robert Lewandowski between 2018-22, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for 2017, Lewandowski again for 2016 and 2014; before finishing up with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Mario Gomez for 2012 and 2011, respectively. The only two he missed were Alexander Meier in 2015 and Stefan Kiessling in 2013.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kane may be on track to become an all-time great at Bayern after playing a big part in Bayern's Bundesliga triumph this season. He has been prolific since signing from Tottenham in 2023 and the striker will likely have his sights set on another Golden Boot next season – along with more trophies.
The allrounder says he will “go slowly” with his bowling workload in his comeback for Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu

Jadeja trains in Chennai ahead of Saurashtra’s Ranji game
Saurashtra’s nets session on Monday gave a clear picture of Ravindra Jadeja’s determination to get back on the field. In a practice session that spanned over three hours and 20 minutes, Jadeja was one of only two players to have an extended hit at the nets. This was after he was done with his stretching and fielding drills at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and then a round of batting and bowling at the nets. In between, he was also seen giving pep talks, initially with the team in a huddle and then with individual players.Jadeja is returning to competitive cricket after a gap of nearly five months after injuring his knee during the Asia Cup last September and is set to lead Saurashtra in their last group game in the Ranji Trophy, with Cheteshwar Pujara and regular captain Jaydev Unadkat rested.Related

Jadeja undergoes surgery for injured right knee, hopes to start rehab soon
Both are understood to have been advised rest by the BCCI ahead of the Test series against Australia, which begins in Nagpur on February 9. Both players are part of the India squad for the first two Tests of the four-match series. Both Pujara and Unadkat, as well as Jadeja, will be part of India’s preparatory camp in Nagpur starting February 2.Jadeja’s inclusion in the 17-man squad is subject to proving his match fitness. He could not have asked for a better place for his competitive return than his home in the IPL, Chennai, where Saurashtra will take on Tamil Nadu starting Tuesday.Given that the last time he played a first-class game was the fifth Test against England in Birmingham last July, Jadeja is looking to get game-time under his belt before joining the India camp.”I’m almost ready,” he said with a wide smile when asked about his fitness. “I was at the NCA [National Cricket Academy] for 20 days, doing batting and bowling, but the match scenario is different. I wanted to play one game before the Australia series, that’s why I am here. Hopefully, I will be fully recovered to play the first Test.”Jadeja underwent surgery for a ligament tear in September 2022, and his planned comeback didn’t materialise when he was ruled out of the tour of Bangladesh in December, having initially been selected in both the ODI and Test squads.Jadeja: ‘I will go slowly [when I’m bowling against Tamil Nadu]. Have to see how my leg is feeling and then I will see’•PTI As of Monday, he wasn’t feeling any discomfort in his knee, but he indicated he wouldn’t be taking on a full bowling workload in the match against Tamil Nadu.”After five months, if you play a competitive game, you don’t feel confident initially,” he said. “But as you progress, you will get better and better.”Injuries are part of the sport. In any sport, if you get injured, you have to start from scratch. Same thing in cricket. I was out of action for five months, so again I have to build my fitness first and then slowly, once I get fit and once I regain my confidence, then definitely I will work on my skills and get better day by day.”While batting in the nets, Jadeja copped a blow to the arm from the side-arm thrower and briefly looked discomfited. However, he continued to bat before coming back to bowl.Speaking about the setbacks he has faced on the road to his comeback from injury, he said: “You feel bad, nobody wants to get injured in the middle of your big season.”It’s a part of the game. You have to keep that in mind, and you have to prepare for it. Can’t do anything. There is no guarantee that nobody would get injured while playing cricket. It’s nice now, coming good. Day by day, I am getting that confidence.”I will go slowly [when I’m bowling]. Have to see how my leg is feeling and then I will see.”During his time away from cricket, Jadeja was busy campaigning for his wife in the Gujarat assembly elections. He said he mostly switched off from cricket during this period.”Fortunately, I was busy with some other things,” he said. “My full focus was there. It helped me a lot. I was also not thinking too much about cricket. Those initial three months after I got injured and got done with my surgery, I was busy with some election things. That helped me a lot. I wasn’t really watching [India] matches. But a few games I did see.”But at the moment, he is “very excited, looking forward to this game. Hopefully, it comes good as a team and as an individual.”
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan delivers a scathing assessment of United, predicting a dismal season ahead for Ruben Amorim next year.

United lost Europa League final to TottenhamRed Devils without European football next seasonJordan sends Amorim job warningFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?
United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham on Wednesday night, failing to secure Champions League football or a trophy. This defeat has led to widespread criticism of the club's performance and direction, with concerns raised about their financial situation and ability to compete at the highest level. The result also means a significant financial blow for the Red Devils, impacting their summer transfer plans.
AdvertisementGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE
The Europa League defeat caps off another disappointing season for United, extending their trophy drought and highlighting deeper issues within the club. Years of poor recruitment, mismanagement and a lack of clear direction have eroded the club's standing in the football world. The failure to qualify for the Champions League further exacerbates these problems, hindering their ability to attract top talent and generate crucial revenue needed to comply with Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR).
WHAT JORDAN SAID
Speaking on talkSPORT, Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan said: "We're seeing an erosion and if it keeps going for another ten years, you're going to see the analogy that I made of Manchester City being Red Bull and Manchester United being Ferrari, being eroded because the next generation of fans are light upon winners and United are not winners.
"I think we just saw United hit the bottom. You cannot make a case for Manchester United to be finishing 16th in the Premier League, two places above the relegation spot and putting out a performance. United were abject and they've lost the final in such an abject manner with so much riding on it, so many opportunities to change the direction of travel.
"I think you've just witnessed the United beast hit the bottom and then that's when you start to bounce and I think you'll see a bounce. Now, what that bounce looks like, it might mean that United finish tenth next season and not 17th."

Getty Images SportWHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?
United face a crucial summer as they look to rebuild their squad and address the issues that have plagued them in recent years. Amorim will be tasked with making significant changes, potentially offloading underperforming players and bringing in new talent. The club will need to be more strategic in their transfer dealings and find solutions to comply with PSR. While Jordan predicts a "bounce" after hitting rock bottom, the scale of that improvement remains to be seen, with a top-half finish potentially representing a significant improvement.
Everton now haven’t lost in the Premier League since the middle of January having collected a 1-1 draw away at relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out.
Only one victory has come the Toffees’ way over the course of their last five top-flight outings – with the draws continuing to pile up and up – but David Moyes’ men will be loving how secure they feel in the division all the way up in 14th spot.
Still, the Scotsman now occupying the Goodison Park dug-out once more will want some improvements from Beto after he barely got going at Molineux, despite being his side’s joint top scorer in league action.
Beto's poor display vs Wolves
Indeed, the Portuguese attacker might well boast six Premier League strikes this campaign so far, but he looked way off his usual best in the West Midlands.
His clinical edge was nowhere to be seen as two big chances were spurned, whilst the ex-Udinese man found himself way off the pace when trying to get involved in general play away from being unleashed in-front of goal, with only three accurate passes registered from his meagre 25 touches of the ball.
Beto
Amazingly, the out-of-sorts number 14 wasn’t hauled off at any point by Moyes during the 1-1 draw, which is likely due to the fact his other striker options on the substitutes bench weren’t plentiful owing to Dominic Calvert-Lewin being sidelined through injury.
Therefore, to shake things up away from over-relying on Beto to deliver the goods, the ex-West Ham United boss could be prepared to give an electric young star a chance in the first-team picture, with Moyes perhaps unearthing his next Wayne Rooney in the process.
Moyes' next Rooney lying in wait at Everton
All those years ago, Moyes was the main man at the Toffees helm when Rooney initially made his breakthrough on Merseyside.
He handed a spritely teenager his professional debut at the tender age of 16 years, nine months and 24 days.
The rest ended up being history for the now-retired Toffees great after he stunned Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman only a couple of games into his fledging senior career, with 17-year-old hot prospect Braiden Graham now aiming to replicate Rooney’s blistering entry onto the first-team scene.

Staggeringly, there have been five younger debutants at Goodison than the much-talked-about Rooney, with three of the top five above handed their first-ever chances in the senior game under Moyes’ watchful eye.
Therefore, the aforementioned Graham will surely fancy his chances at breaking into the men’s team soon, with the Northern Irish teenager already breaking records back at his previous side in Linfield when he was launched into the senior picture aged just 15.
In The Pipeline
Football FanCast’s In the Pipeline series aims to uncover the very best youth players in world football.
Since then, the Ballygowan-born sensation has made quite the impression on Merseyside, with Graham picking up eight strikes from 18 games representing both the U18s and U21s.
Unfazed by being thrown into the U21 set-up, Graham could fancy his chances very soon of being second-in-command to Beto, with the 17-year-old keen to etch his name into Toffees folklore as another exciting and raw youngster who took to the first-team swimmingly.
Indeed, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract coming to an end in the summer, there will be an opening for either a new signing or young hero to make the mark inside the new stadium.
Much like Rooney too, the “incredible” starlet – as he was once labelled by his ex-Linfield boss in David Healy – can play as a number ten if needed, away from leading the line with venom.
Arguably, Everton do need some freshening up in the striker spots, with Graham perhaps the next bold pick by Moyes to get the Goodison masses out of their seats.
Outscoring Beto: Everton must rue selling star now better than Richarlison
Everton could do with this former “menace” in their ranks this season.
Amid reports that Angus Kinnear is on his way to Merseyside, The Friedkin Group have reportedly advanced in talks to seal yet another deal away from the action at Everton.
Friedkin advance talks for another Everton deal
Sparking rumours that he’s on his way to Merseyside this summer, Leeds United released an official statement about Kinnear’s departure from the club, in which chairman Paraag Marathe said: “I want to thank Angus for his commitment and service for so many years, and for being a fantastic steward and leader of the club. As we move forward, I am confident that the incredible talent across our team will sustain our success.”
Matched with fresh Everton ambition, Kinnear will be tasked with building a side capable of moving beyond simply just securing Premier League safety, as the Toffees aim to step into the top half again at long last.
In pursuit of achieving just that, it looks as though Kinnear won’t be the only one to arrive in an off-pitch restructure under Friedkin this summer. The Toffees have turned their attention towards recruitment and are closing in on their replacement for Kevin Thelwell.
Moyes has discovered his next Fellaini in "unbelievable" Everton star
David Moyes might have his second iteration of Marouane Fellaini on his hands at Everton.

According to Football Insider, The Friedkin Group and Everton are now in advanced talks with Rob Newman in a deal that would see the former Manchester City chief become their new head of recruitment.
Out of a job since leaving his position as director of football and scout at West Ham United last summer, Newman looks set to receive a fresh opportunity to step back into the Premier League, where he helped turn the Hammers into Europa Conference League winners under David Moyes.
Reuniting with his former colleague in Moyes, the 61-year-old could play a part in taking Everton to the levels he took those at the London Stadium, starting with this summer.
Newman could reunite with Moyes at Everton
The fact that they’ve worked together in the past means that the move makes perfect sense from Friedkin, who could re-establish Newman and Moyes’ partnership in Merseyside. Having been a scout at Manchester City from 2008 to 2021, to say that the experienced club chief has an eye for talent would be an understatement.
When given money to spend at West Ham, Newman welcomed the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and James Ward-Prowse – three players who have made impacts at different times during their spells at the London Stadium. And if Newman’s job looked a simple one, then the struggles that the Hammers have since endured under Tim Steidten suggest that the 61-year-old is certainly good at what he does.
Now, one year on from leaving West Ham, a fresh project at Everton could see the recruitment expert oversee his best rebuild yet. Friedkin will be desperate to get things right and the arrival of both Newman and Kinnear could form the foundation towards finally taking Everton back where they belong.
As the current campaign comes to an end and their survival under Moyes becomes confirmed, all eyes will be set on the summer transfer window.
Ipswich Town are now showing interest in a summer move for an “excellent” defender who is currently starring in the Championship, according to a report.
Ipswich fighting to avoid the drop
It was always going to be a tough task for Ipswich to avoid relegation from the Premier League, but they are refusing to go down without a fight, and it was another spirited performance away at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.
Despite going down to 10 men in the first half, with Axel Tuanzebe being shown a red card, the Tractor Boys managed to pick up a point at a tough place to go in Villa Park, with Liam Delap once again getting on the scoresheet in a 1-1 draw.
Kieran McKenna’s side are still two points from safety, but Saturday’s performance should give them confidence heading into another tough period.

There is still uncertainty as to which division Ipswich will be playing in next season, but they are starting to look at potential recruits ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, the Tractor Boys are now showing interest in Millwall’s Japhet Tanganga, who has impressed in the Championship this season.
However, there could be a great deal of competition for Tanganga’s signature, with Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Southampton also name-checked as potential destinations.
He's outscoring Delap: Ipswich must rue not signing PL star now worth £67m
Ipswich must regret not signing this player when they had the chance.

Premier League scouts are planning to watch the defender in action next month when Crystal Palace take on the Lions at Selhurst Park in the FA Cup.
In the January transfer window, Millwall warded off interest in the centre-back with a £12m asking price, but it is unclear how much they would be looking to receive for him in the summer.
Tanganga could be an "excellent" signing
Regardless of which league Ipswich find themselves in next season, the 25-year-old could be a fantastic addition to the squad given his top-flight experience and performances in the second tier this season.
As per Sofascore, the former Tottenham Hotspur man has averaged a match rating of 7.18, the highest of any player in the Millwall squad, and he has established himself as a key player, making 29 appearances in the Championship.

Ex-Millwall boss Neil Harris was also full of praise for the Englishman earlier this season, saying: “He’s a Premier League player all day long, we all know that.
“We want him on the pitch every week and he knows his place in the team. I know what he’s excellent at, which is pretty much everything.”
As such, it is promising news that Ipswich are now in the race to sign Tanganga, and they should continue to monitor his performances in the Championship for the remainder of the season.
Chelsea are in talks to sign a Brazilian wonderkid who is already playing first-team football at the age of just 16, according to a new report.
Chelsea acting early in the market as Denner Evangelista set to sign
Chelsea made a new signing over the weekend in the form of Brazilian full-back Denner Evangelista, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Blues have agreed to pay £11.5 million for the 17-year-old. Romano said that Denner is soon to sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, but that he won’t join his new club until 2026 after he turns 18.
Denner is just the latest in a growing-line of Brazilian youngsters to have joined the club in recent years, including Deivid Washington, Andrey Santos and Angelo. Most notably, young winger Estevao – who is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in world football – will join the Blues in the summer, having agreed an initial £29 million move to West London back in June.
Young Brazilian star Estevao Willian
Thanks to his sensational displays for Palmeiras this season, the 17-year-old’s impending arrival has many a Chelsea fan excited, who are hoping he can bring some much-needed dynamism in the final third for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Blues also in transfer talks for long-term target Gabriel Mec
Clearly not content with the signings of Denner and Estevao, according to Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Chelsea are now also pursuing the signature of Gremio attacking midfielder Gabriel Mec. Bailey claims that the Blues tried and failed to land Mec, 16, last summer, but are now once again in talks with Gremio and are hopeful they can secure a deal.
Chelsea are said to be pushing hard to land Mec, who is already playing first-team football at the Arena do Grêmio, having been handed his debut by manager Gustavo Quinteros earlier this year. They will face competition from Barcelona, however, who are also keen on the youngster.
Mec is represented and Neymar’s father, Neymar Sr., and has already been compared to the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star by analyst Ben Mattinson.
“Neymar-esque play-style and comes from the same academy (Grêmio) as Ronaldinho. Hard to not be excited by him,” wrote Mattinson on X. “Mec has rapid feet able to do skills so quickly that he can fool defenders easily,” he said. “A joy to watch, he’s a real throwback Brazilian.”
After Mec made his Gremio debut in January, Mattinson wrote of him: “Played with so much confidence to drive at the defence onto either foot, drawing players to him to create spaces. Mec is the biggest talent of his age group and another prospect ready for a breakthrough season.”

The Reds may have enjoyed a glorious revival under new manager Arne Slot, but some players played a bigger role in their success than others
What a season it's been for Liverpool! This time last year, fans were still coming to terms with Jurgen Klopp's final game in charge, unsure of what to expect from the German's successor, Arne Slot. Right now, though, they're basking in the glory of a record-breaking 20th top-flight title and hailing the Dutchman as a genius after the Reds absolutely ran away with this season's Premier League.
Liverpool's surprise success was very much a team triumph, founded upon their collective resilience and sense of togetherness, particularly during tough times for the group when expiring contracts were becoming a major distraction. However, certain individuals deserve recognition for the inspirational roles they played in putting the Merseysiders back on their perch.
Below, GOAL ranks every single Liverpool player to have appeared in at least five league games during the 2024-25 campaign…
Getty Images22Darwin Nunez – 2/10
There's just no way that Darwin Nunez will still at Liverpool next season, after an absolutely calamitous campaign. The Uruguayan's dramatic late double at Brentford was one of the key moments in the title win, but Nunez scored just five Premier League goals in total – an abysmal return for a No.9 bought for £64 million ($86m).
It was recently reported that Slot stopped starting Nunez so that Liverpool could avoid paying any more money for the forward in bonuses and that could well be true. But it might also have been down to the fact that Nunez's specialises in missing open goals.
AdvertisementGetty Images21Federico Chiesa – 3/10
Slot says Federico Chiesa "definitely" has a future at Liverpool, but we have our doubts. The injury-prone Italian obviously arrived at Liverpool in a poor physical state after being frozen out of Juventus' pre-season plans, but even when he was available for selection, Slot rarely used Chiesa.
Despite coming off the bench to score in the Carabao Cup final, the versatile winger, who has plenty of suitors in Serie A, had to wait until the penultimate weekend of the season for his first Premier League start.
Getty Images Sport20Jarell Quansah – 4/10
Jarell Quansah began the season as Slot's preferred partner for Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence. However, he was hauled off at half-time during the Reds' opener at Ipswich Town and has been a bit-part player ever since.
Of course, Quansah was so nearly a surprise hero in the Champions League last-16 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, hitting the post with a fine header that could have sent the Reds through to the quarter-finals, but it was ultimately a frustrating campaign for Quansah, who ended up seeing fewer minutes in the Premier League than Joe Gomez, who was out injured for five months.

Getty Images Sport19Joe Gomez – 4/10
It was lovely to see Gomez make the bench for Sunday's game against Crystal Palace after being sidelined for four months with an injury sustained in the FA Cup loss at Plymouth Argyle.
Whether he will still be at the club next season, though, is anyone's guess. Gomez's versatility makes him invaluable, and before his injury he was looking like a more reliable option at centre-back than either Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah, but he may well leave this summer to secure more regular game time elsewhere.
The losing team will have to depend on other results going in their favour

Kolkata Knight Riders come into the game on the back of a tightly-fought win•Associated Press
Rajasthan Royals Kolkata Knight Riders Both Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders are identically placed with 10 points from 11 games, but in terms of momentum, they are at very different places in their campaigns. Royals have lost five of their last six matches; Knight Riders have won three of their last four. Also, both were involved in last-ball finishes in their most recent game, but while Royals made a mess of a match they should have definitely won against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Knight Riders came through in a tough chase against Punjab Kings.Whichever team loses on Thursday will be up against it, as they can finish only on a maximum of 14 points. That will leave them depending on several other results, for as many as eight teams can finish on 14 or more points, including four on 16 or more. Thus, the team losing this game will be at the mercy of several other results going in their favour.Even with 16 points (wins in each of their three remaining games), qualification isn’t assured for either of these teams, because progress could still come down to net run rates. If it does come down to that, Royals are better placed with a relatively healthy value so far, but for it to be of consequence, they will have to start adding to their points tally as well.Though Royals have the better NRR, Knight Riders have the advantage of two home games in hand, compared to just one for Royals. Neither team has made good use of home conditions, though – Knight Riders have won two of five, and Royals two of six – so Royals might actually be relieved to be playing away from home. For both teams, it is that stage of the tournament when any further slip-up could result in elimination.
