Big pictureThe game between Rajasthan Royals and Lions in Jaipur is a contest between two of the most similar teams in the Champions League, in terms of their style of play and their approach to the game.Their results in the last season – a third-place IPL finish for the Royals, in spite of the spot-fixing scandal, and a first title win in six seasons for the Lions – were built out of team cultures that stress on collective efforts, freedom to youngsters and an uninhibited approach to opponents.Royals’ captain Rahul Dravid said after the win against Mumbai Indians that the side had left the spot-fixing issue aside. A win here will help them pull away with a small lead in the group that could prove vital given the format of the tournament. The Lions, on the other hand, will seek crucial points after their first match against Perth Scorchers was abandoned due to rain.Royals are unbeaten at home and the fresh track during the IPL and against Mumbai suited their bowling attack. These are conditions, however, that will also benefit the Lions attack. Even without Chris Morris, who is playing for Chennai Super Kings, the Lions pace attack comprises formidable bowlers Hardus Viljoen, Sohail Tanvir and Lonwabo Tsotsobe. Royals have an equally effective pace attack, led chiefly by James Faulkner and Shane Watson. Vikramjeet Malik showed he has the potential to fill in for Siddharth Trivedi and Royals also have good options in Kevon Cooper, Stuart Binny and Rahul Shukla. Royals, however, are the weaker side in spin-bowling. Ashok Menaria has been in good bowling form recently, but without Brad Hogg, the Royals spin attack, that also includes Harmeet Singh and Pravin Tambe, will miss the assuring presence of a senior spinner. The Lions spin attack, meanwhile, has the experienced Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso. Given the conditions, however, the pacers may once again dominate.0:00

‘Momentum is with us’ – Rahane

In batting, the two sides are fairly evenly matched. Quinton de Kock has struggled in subcontinent conditions but has the potential to give Lions an explosive start. Alviro Petersen has charge of the middle order and it will be interesting to see if Lions decide to bring the experienced Neil McKenzie into the order to steady them. In the IPL, Royals garnered some attention for unusual batting changes and they stuck to that strategy pushing Sanju Samson to No. 3 against Mumbai. Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane can give them good starts and Watson’s presence can add depth to a solid middle order that includes Binny and Brad Hodge.Players to watchEarlier this year, Lonwabo Tsotsobe switched to the Lions, his third first-class club in as many years. He was publicly criticized for his fitness and attitude by South Africa coach Russell Domingo at the end of the Sri Lanka tour and he was not originally a part of the Lions’ squad for the Champions League. He comes into this tournament with plenty to prove to his detractors. A solid contribution to the Lions’ cause will also ease his entry into the new side, ahead of South Africa’s domestic season.Shane Watson can again be expected to play a crucial role for Royals. He comes into the Champions League on the back of a century in the one-dayers against England and he brought all his experience into play to take Royals to victory in a close chase against Mumbai. Unlike the IPL, where he took his time returning to bowling after an injury, he will have to shoulder more of the burden this time round.

The 42-year-old Steve Tikolo has come out of international retirement after being recalled to the Kenya squad for the World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE more than two-and-a-half years after he last played for the country.Tikolo’s previous appearance came in the 2011 World Cup, when he faced Zimbabwe in Kolkata, and at the time he said that was the end of his international career that included 134 ODIs and 11 T20s. Since then he has only appeared in a joint Kenya-Uganda domestic structure for Rwenzori Warriors where he has also been coaching.However, in a further sign of the regression in Kenya cricket, he has been brought back into the fold alongside 35-year-old Thomas Odoyo who also previously played an international during the last World Cup and has not played a Twenty20 international since 2008.Both Tikolo and Odoyo made their debuts at the 1996 World Cup during which Kenya famously beat West Indies. They also took part in the 1999 event in England then helped Kenya to the high point of their cricket history when they reached the semi-finals of the 2003 tournament in South Africa. Since then, however, the organisation and success of the sport has plummeted despite qualification for the next two World Cups.Kenya have only qualified for one World Twenty20 tournament, the inaugural competition in South Africa during 2007. Last month they registered the lowest T20 international total of 56 when they were skittled by Afghanistan in Sharjah. On a frenetic first day at the Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara were bundled out for 152 before they shot out Madhya Pradesh for 60 to take the advantage. It didn’t seem like such an overwhelmingly bowlers’ day was on the cards when Baroda chose to bat, and their openers put on 60 runs. Even after Saurabh Wakaskar was dismissed, Baroda progressed to 90 for 1 before the innings crumbled against the offspin of Jalaj Saxena. The only batsman outside the top three to make it past 7 was the captain, Yusuf Pathan, who reached 12 before being caught behind. Six batsmen made 2 or less as Baroda tumbled to a low score, despite Abhimanyu Chauhan’s half-century.That was only the start of the drama for the day, though, as MP’s batsmen were even more clueless against spin. Left-arm spinner Ketul Patel, playing his first match of the season, sliced through the top order before Yusuf polished off the lower middle order. Between them, they took 8 for 26 in 15.2 overs as MP folded for the lowest total of the season to hand back the initiative to Baroda.One high-profile occasion on which Baroda had a similar minefield of a pitch was in the 2010-11 semi-final against Karnataka, a match which ended well within two days.

On a relatively more steady day in Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 226 by Rajasthan. The home side’s trio of fast bowlers – Aniket Choudhary, Pankaj Singh and Deepak Chahar – shared the wickets as none of the UP batsmen could go on to make a substantial score. Mohammad Kaif, captaining in the absence of Piyush Chawla who missed the match due to his wedding, fell for 5 as his search for the season’s first half-century continued. UP could have fallen for a much smaller total had it not been for No. 10 Imtiaz Ahmed’s unbeaten 43 which lifted them beyond 200 from 159 for 8.

It turned out to be a good toss to lose for Bengal captain Laxmi Shukla, who was playing his 100th Ranji game – a first for a Bengal cricketer, as veteran opener Arindam batted with a lot of composure to score his 10th first-class hundred. O dia 28 de abril de 1969, uma segunda-feira, ficou marcado na história do futebol por um momento trágico. Neste dia, o ponta-esquerda Eduardo, de 25 anos, e o lateral-direito Lidu, de 22, que eram titulares do Corinthians, morreram em acidente de carro na Marginal Tietê, enquanto voltavam de um restaurante após jogo contra o São Bento pelo Campeonato Paulista, que terminou empatado por 1×1. A data completa exatos 50 anos neste domingo.

A delegação alvinegra saiu de Sorocaba à noite e seguiu para São Paulo diretamente para o Parque São Jorge. Ao chegar na sede do clube,parte do grupo decidiu jantar no restaurante Recreio Chácara Souza, no bairro de Santana. No retorno ao Parque São Jorge, aconteceu o acidente, próximo da ponte da Vila Maria, (atualmente ponte Jânio Quadros).

Lidu, que era recém habilitado, dirigia seu fusca pela Marginal, na época em construção e com pouca iluminação. Em determinado momento, o lateral capotou o carro ao passar por guias jogadas no asfalto, perto da ponte da Vila Maria. Com o impacto, os jogadores foram arremessados para fora do veículo, sofreram traumatismo craniano e morreram na hora. Antes do socorro chegar, os corpos ainda foram saqueados, e objetos como relógios e carteiras foram levados. Não havia outras pessoas dentro do carro acidentado.

O acidente foi capa de diversos jornais do Brasil no dia seguinte. A população ficou sem acreditar na tragédia que tirou dois titulares importantíssimos do Corinthians. O velório, que aconteceu no Parque São Jorge, contou com a presença de aproximadamente 30 mil pessoas, entre torcedores e personalidades do esporte. Após o velório, o corpo de Lidu seguiu para Presidente Prudente (SP), enquanto o corpo de Eduardo foi levado para o cemitério do Caju, no Rio de Janeiro. Ao todo, Lidu jogou 36 partidas pelo Timão (com 24 vitórias, seis empates e seis derrotas). Já Eduardo fez 71 jogos (com 44 vitórias, 12 empates e 17 derrotas) e 15 gols com a camisa do clube. O Corinthians sentiu muito a falta da dupla nas partidas seguintes.

– Em 1969 o Corinthians entrava em seu 15° ano sem ser campeão. E fazia uma ótima campanha: pela primeira vez em todo o tempo do jejum, havia vencido todos os quatro clássicos do primeiro turno, contra Palmeiras, Santos, São Paulo e Portuguesa, e liderava o campeonato com folga. Aliás, se fossem pontos corridos, o Corinthians teria sido campeão. Mas justo naquele ano o regulamento mudou, e no quadrangular final, sem os dois jogadores que morreram, o time naufragou e ficou em último – disse Celso Unzelte, jornalista da ESPN e autor do Almanaque do Timão.

Para ter uma ideia da queda de produção do time após o acidente, no quadrangular da fase final, o Corinthians perdeu todos os jogos que disputou, acabando em último lugar do grupo. O Santos acabou sendo campeão paulista de 1969.

O apelido de ‘Porco’

Uma história curiosa cerca o acidente na Marginal Tietê. Como o Paulistão daquele ano tinha data limite para a inscrição de jogadores, e o prazo para o registro já havia se encerrado, o presidente do Corinthians, Wadih Helu, pediu à Federação Paulista de Futebol (FPF) a inscrição de dois atletas para substituírem Eduardo e Lidu. Todos os clubes deveriam aceitar o pedido do Timão, pois a decisão teria de ser unânime. Porém, o Palmeiras, representado pelo presidente Delffino Facchina, foi o único clube contra o pedido do rival, impossibilitando a inscrição.

Irritado, Wadih teria chamado os dirigentes do Palmeiras de ‘porco’, afirmando que os cartolas do Alviverde tiveram espírito sujo. Segundo Celso Unzelte, no entanto, o apelido já existia antes deste episódio.

– A história do porco não é só essa. Os italianos (e, portanto, palmeirenses, por extensão) eram chamados pejorativamente de porcos desde os tempos da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Naquele primeiro momento, principalmente por são-paulinos, que participaram ativamente da campanha para o Palestra mudar de nome. Em 69, os corintianos apenas ressuscitaram o apelido, que já existia – disse o jornalista.

Entre os torcedores do Corinthians o apelido ‘pegou’. Os corintianos passaram a provocar os palmeirenses. Na partida seguinte entre os dois times, torcedores alvinegros soltaram um porco no campo do Morumbi antes do jogo. Enquanto o suíno corria, assustado, os corintianos entoavam o coro de “porco! porco!”.

O apelido ficou marcado de forma odiosa no Palmeiras por muitos anos, mas a história começou a mudar em 1983. Naquele ano,por inciativa do então gerente de marketing do Palmeiras, João Roberto Gobbato, surgiu pela primeira vez a ideia de assumir o apelido pejorativo e transformá-lo em um mascote do clube. Alguns cartolas mais antigos rejeitaram de imediato a proposta, mas ela ganhou força entre as torcidas organizadas. Uma das torcidas, no ano seguinte, chegou a comercializar porquinhos de porcelana para a torcida. As vendas foram um sucesso, e ajudaram a fortalecer a ideia da adoção do novo símbolo.

A iniciativa de Gobbato foi amadurecendo até que, em 29 de outubro de 1986, o “Dá-lhe Porco” foi ouvido pela primeira vez na arquibancada da torcida alviverde, em duelo contra o Santos. No jogo seguinte, diante do São Paulo, no Morumbi, o novo mascote foi integrado de vez. Torcedores levaram um porco vivo ao gramado, desfilaram em campo com fantasias e bandeiras do novo xodó e, desta vez de forma unânime, exaltaram o suíno nas arquibancadas.

Já firmado pela torcida, chegava a hora de o porco também ganhar espaço na imprensa esportiva. Em novembro de 1986, a conceituada Revista Placar estampou em sua capa uma foto histórica do meia Jorginho Putinatti, um dos símbolos do Palmeiras na década de 80, carregando um porco no colo. Na oportunidade, a edição da revista ganhou enorme repercussão.

– Em 86, com a atitude da Mancha Verde, e com jogadores como Edu Manga e Jorginho entrando com o porco, a torcida viu que esse apelido dava originalidade. Ao assumir o grito de ‘porco’, os rivais pararam com a brincadeira. Foi no contexto da Copa do México, o bom time do Palmeiras, e a torcida da Mancha que ainda era nova, com três anos de atividades. Todos esses fatores contribuíram para a adoção do apelido de ‘porco’ pela torcida palmeirense – diz o jornalista Mauro Beting.

Jorginho Puttinati contou ao LANCE! como os jogadores do Verdão lidavam com as brincadeiras.

– Era mais para a torcida. Era chato quando nós entrávamos no campo e a torcida soltava um leitãozinho no gramado. Nós brincávamos que devíamos pegar um gambá para soltar, mas era difícil pegar esse bicho – disse o ex-meia.

Jorginho falou ao LANCE! como surgiu a ideia de posar para a revista.

– Em 86, um repórter do Placar conversou comigo para fazer umas fotos com o porquinho no colo, porque eu era um dos ídolos nessa época. Tirei as fotos e a torcida aderiu, a diretoria aceitou e acabou virando um grito de guerra do clube. Eu não esperava essa reação da torcida. Me sinto lisonjeado, naquela época nós não esperávamos dar essa repercussão. Não havia tanta imprensa como tem hoje, redes sociais e tudo mais. Me sinto bem feliz por ter deixado uma marca no clube como o Palmeiras – declarou.

وأكمل في تصريحاته لقناة صدى البلد: “الدكتور حسن مصطفى رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة اليد بعد المباراة مباشرة كنت معه، لقد طلب من مسؤولي الاتحاد الدولي تدوين ما حدث اليوم، لكونه لم يسبق وأن حدث في بطولات العالم للناشئين من قبل”.

وتابع: “منظومة كرة اليد في مصر تسير بشكل جيد بسبب تواجد تخطيط مستقبلي”.

وأضاف: “أعرف الدكتور حسن مصطفى منذ 40 عاما ولم أراه سعيدا مثل اليوم، لم أشاهد فريق يكون خاسر بفارق ثلاثة أهداف ومتبقي دقيقة ويحدث الذي حدث، هذا شيء رباني، هذا الجيل ملتزم ويصلي الفجر جماعة”.
