Pakistan comprehensively beat Kenya in their tournament opener on Wednesday, but played, in Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar and Abdur Rehman, with just three specialist bowlers. Shahid Afridi is as good as a specialist bowler but the caution to fill the line-up with batsmen and batsmen who can bowl, has led to an under-utilisation of Abdul Razzaq.Razzaq batted at No. 8 in the last game, as he has done in 14 of 18 ODIs in the last year. He has played a few significant innings but more than his performances, the question has been whether he is being allowed, in the current line-up, to have the fullest impact on a game. Pakistan have compensated by using him as an opening bowler, but even there he remains under-used: in those 18 ODIs, he has bowled 91.4 overs or, on average, roughly five overs a game. Never once has he bowled the whole quota and he has picked up eight wickets.Instead, Pakistan have combined him and Mohammad Hafeez to provide a fifth bowler and have also been making Ahmed Shehzad bowl in practice, with a view to using him if needed. But it has been done to shore the batting up further still.”It is unfortunate Ajmal is not playing right now,” Waqar said. “He has won matches for us over the last 4-5 years. But right now Rehman is a utility player. He bats a little, he is a very good fielder and the way he is bowling, from what I’ve seen, he is the best spinner here.”For the moment, Waqar said, the final XI had not been decided and hints from the camp suggest it is likely to remain unchanged. But the nature of the surface, re-laid recently, might compel a re-jig. “We don’t really know at the moment,” Waqar said. “These pitches are brand new, so we’re not really sure how it has played. We’re just going to go with the best combination, what we probably had in the last match but we haven’t had a meeting yet. Callum Ferguson and Jason Krejza will replace the pair in the 15-man squad, which flies out to India on Wednesday to defend the title under Ricky Ponting.And if losing a key middle-order batsman and the first-choice spinner was not bad enough, Australia could not even opt for their second choices in each discipline, with Shaun Marsh and Xavier Doherty not considered due to injuries of their own. It has meant a rapid promotion for the aggressive offspinner Krejza, who made his ODI debut on Sunday, while the inclusion of Ferguson was less of a surprise given his solid performances at international level over the past couple of years.Hussey in particular will be a massive loss, as he is the only Australian in the top ten of the ICC’s one-day batting rankings, and he is a renowned finisher who can rescue the side after top-order trouble. However, the selectors decided they could not risk Hussey, who suffered a serious hamstring injury during the one-day series against England that resulted in surgery, and he conceded he would be unlikely to be fit for the first couple of World Cup matches.Hauritz seemed a more likely candidate to make the cut, after he dislocated his shoulder while fielding during the one-day game in Hobart on January 21 and had surgery in a bid to be fit for the World Cup. A atuação convincente do Flamengo diante do Ceará, no Castelão, passou pela mudança no posicionamento de Lucas Paquetá. Com Everton Ribeiro de volta ao time no lugar de Arão, o jovem meia deixou a extrema direita, atuando ao lado de Diego na faixa central do campo, caindo mais para o lado esquerdo.

A formação com Willian Arão ao lado de Cuéllar – testada contra América-MG, no Rio de Janeiro, e Santa Fe, na Colômbia – não funcionou como o técnico esperava. Diego ficou sobrecarregado na criação e Paquetá, aberto na direita, não conseguiu imprimir velocidade. Por isso, o Flamengo voltou ao 4-1-4-1.

No entanto, a mudança sutil, e determinante, de Barbieri foi na troca de funções de Diego e Paquetá. O garoto foi recuado, sendo o responsável por buscar a bola nos pés de Cuéllar ou dos zagueiros. O camisa 10, por sua vez, atuou com mais liberdade e posicionou-se mais próximo da área adversária.

Quando substituiu Paquetá pelo garoto Jean Lucas , aos 42 minutos da etapa final, Barbieri o aplaudiu muito. Após o jogo, o interino explicou os aplausos.
