So far this season in the Premier League, Liverpool have had 11 different goalscorers that have contributed to the 35 goals the Reds have managed to score in the league.

However, it seems as though the Merseyside club could be set to potentially lose one of their 11 league goalscorers this season in the upcoming January transfer window.

What’s the news?

It has recently been reported in The Northern Echo that Newcastle United have targeted Reds attacker Divock Origi for a potential loan move to St. James’ Park in January to help save them from relegation.

Since making his debut for Liverpool back in September 2015, the 26-year-old, who is currently valued at £10.8m according to Transfermarkt, has made a total of 164 appearances across all competitions in which he has managed to score 38 goals and provide 16 assists along the way.

This season has seen the Belgian, who Jurgen Klopp has called “outstanding” in the past, make just seven appearances for the club across all competitions but has added three goals and two assists to his tally, showing that he is capable of being a useful attacking option for the side, which is probably why he has apparently been identified by Newcastle as a potential loan target in January.

However, letting the Belgian leave in January might be nothing short of a disaster for the Reds. Firstly, as he has shown in previous seasons at Anfield that he is capable of popping up at the most important moments and winning games for the Reds.

He bagged in their 1-0 win over Everton back in December 2018 where he scored the very late winner before scoring a brace in their 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.

In addition to this, Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who have contributed 18 of the 35 league goals Liverpool have scored this season between them, are due to set off to take part in the AFCON tournament that kicks off in January. Thus, it would be a huge mistake, bordering on a disaster, to allow Origi to leave at the same time, handing them a severe lack of options at the top end of the pitch.

With a Premier League title to compete for, the Anfield club will need all the bodies they can get in order to usurp Manchester City and Chelsea.

With this in mind, FSG should turn down any offer they may receive in January for Origi and make sure he stays at the club until the end of the current season at a minimum and hope that he can adequately fill in for Mane and Salah.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has said it will continue with the disciplinary action against players at the centre of the controversy surrounding pay and contractual matters. The action had been suspended during negotiations between the board and the players but those talks broke down last week.Leading players including Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan are all part of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), which is currently locked in a battle with the board over annual retainer contracts. The West Indies players have not signed those contracts since October 2008; WIPA has claimed that the players have played four tournaments in a row this year without the contracts while the WICB says the demands of the players are unjust.In a separate statement, indicative of the widening gulf between the two parties, WIPA also agreed that a number of proposals, including the involvement of the Caribbean Court of Justice, were no longer applicable following the breakdown in talks.The board’s statement said it decided to resume disciplinary action against all West Indies players who had committed breaches of its Code of Conduct during the England tour, Indian tour and the Bangladesh tour earlier this year, by referring these matters to its disciplinary committee.It did not itemise all of the breaches of its code but the said the players were likely to be asked to respond to well-publicised charges from the three series.Against England, the players blocked the logo of the team’s sponsor during the first one-day international in Guyana, where they also failed to attend a cocktail reception hosted by the same sponsors. The WICB was forced to field a weakened squad which resulted in Bangladesh sweeping both the Test and one-day series.Mediation efforts between the WICB and WIPA also collapsed recently, with the mediator, former Commonwealth secretary general Shridath Ramphal, claiming that one “party” had introduced a document late in the negotiations that led to their stalling.The board also came in for criticism from Bharrat Jagdeo, the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) chairman and Guyana president, alleging that the board prejudiced the efforts to broker peace from the start.However, the WICB denied the claims. “Disciplinary action against offending players had been initiated prior to the commencement of mediation and had been suspended in favor of a settlement through mediation,” the board said. “The WICB had as part of its compromise in the mediation effort offered to withdraw all disciplinary action against the players. With the failure of mediation the next step would have been the settlement of all matters through arbitration which, the WICB will be pursuing immediately.”

بعد الهدف سيطر مانشستر يونايتد على وسط الملعب، ليخرج من شوط المباراة الأول متقدمًا في النتيجة بهدف نظيف.

بداية الشوط الثاني، كانت مثلما انتهى الأول، ضغط متواصل من آرسنال للعودة في المباراة. تسديدة من أوديجارد وأخرى من ساكا ولكن لم تأتي بجديد.

في الدقيقة 55، عرضية بوكايو ساكا منعتها العارضة قبل الوصول لـ جابرييل جيسوس لتخرج الكرة إلى ضربة مرمى، مع تحفيز ميكيل أرتيتا لفريقه بأن الهدف سيأتي لا محالة.

لم يكمل أنتوني ساعة لعب، وخرج من الملعب وسط هتافات جماهير مانشستر يونايتد لصاحب هدف التقدم، ليترك مكانه للأسطورة كريستيانو رونالدو.

بعد دقيقتين، مرر أوديجارد كرة في قلب دفاع مانشستر يونايتد، فشل جيسوس في السيطرة عليها، لترتد لـ ساكا الذي يجد المرمى أمامه خالي من دي خيا، ويضع هدف التعادل مع فرحة ميكيل أرتيتا، الذي كان على حق عندما دعّم بوكايو في كرة القائم قبل 5 دقائق.

الدقيقة 66، مرر برونو فرنانديز تمريرة مثالية أمام ماركوس راشفورد الذي وجد نفسه أمام المرمى ليضعها على يمين الحارس آرون رامسديل، ويتقدم مجددًا لـ مانشستر يونايتد.

بعد الهدف خرج سانشو ودخل فريد، وبعد دقيقتين فقط، كاد برونو فرنانديز أن يسجل الثالث، ولكن رامسديل صحح الخطأ بعدما مرر لـ برونو دون قصد.

في الدقيقة 74، قرر أرتيتا التدخل وأقحم الثلاثي فابيو فييرا وسميث روي ونيكيتياه، بدلًا من لوكونجا ومارتن أوديجارد، بالإضافة لـ زينتشينكو.

امتص مانشستر يونايتد حماس آرسنال الذي كان يحاول التعادل، قبل أن يحصل الجانرز على مخالفة يسددها تشاكا ترتد إلى انفراد تام، ولكن تمريرة إريكسن لم يلحق بها رونالدو بعد خروج رامسديل قبل البرتغالي.

ظل آرسنال يبحث عن تقليص الفارق، ولكن دفاعات مانشستر يونايتد كانت بالمرصاد، قبل أن يسدد سميث روي صاروخية في الدقيقة 92، لكنها مرت فوق العارضة.

Marquinhos Gabriel é o reserva mais eficiente do Corinthians em 2017, com quatro gols e cinco assistências. Não à toa, ele é a maior sombra do time ideal definido pelo técnico Fábio Carille e nome mais próximo de ganhar uma chance definitiva como titular no trio do 4-2-3-1, tradicionalmente formado por Jadson, Rodriguinho e Romero. Para provar a boa fase e aumentar a pressão para cima dos principais nomes do elenco, o camisa 31 começa jogando nesta quarta-feira, às 21h, contra o Coritiba, pela 27ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro.

A partida realizada na Arena Corinthians marcará o jogo de número 50 de Marquinhos Gabriel como titular do Timão – ao todo, ele atinge a marca de 70 exibições. Em 2016, ano em que foi contratado, o camisa 31 entrou em campo 39 vezes, sendo 36 como titular e três saindo do banco de reservas. Na temporada atual são 30 partidas, mas somente 13 como titular e o restante como reserva, o que evidencia uma perda de espaço entre um ano e outro.

Além dos bons números de participação em gols na temporada, o que chama atenção da comissão técnica do Corinthians é a versatilidade de Marquinhos Gabriel. Ele tem possibilidade de jogar não só nas duas pontas ou centralizado no meio, como também treinou nas últimas semanas como falso 9, um centroavante mais móvel e participativo. A mobilidade nas últimas linhas é um ponto que pesa a favor do reserva na briga por espaço.

-O Marquinhos Gabriel é um jogador importantíssimo para nós, porque com ele mudamos as características da equipe. É um jogador de um contra um, de drible e improviso na parte final – avalia o técnico Fábio Carille, que bancou a permanência do camisa 31 no elenco de uma temporada para outra e prometeu resgatá-lo em 2017. Por enquanto tem dado resultado.

No ano passado, Marquinhos Gabriel participou de dez jogadas decisivas, com seis gols e quatro assistências. Neste ano são nove participações em gols. No 50º jogo como titular somando as duas passagens ele terá a chance de igualar suas marcas de 2016. E botar pressão de vez no Corinthians ideal.

Celtic could wrap up a deal for Kawasaki Frontale’s Reo Hatate before the Hoops’ 2022 training camp, according to Kieran Devlin for The Athletic.

The Lowdown: Hatate’s heart set on move…

Hatate, who is currently on just £625 per week, is thought to have his heart set on a move to Celtic Park, with his deal up at the end of January.

The 24-year-old recently picked up a second consecutive J1 League title but now wants to join Kyogo Furuhashi under Ange Postecoglou, and it appears as if the Hoops want to get a transfer finalised as soon as possible instead of waiting until the end of January.

The Latest: Devlin’s story

Devlin shared a story on The Athletic on Thursday looking at how Hatate could fit in should he seal a move to Scotland.

He admitted there is ‘talk’ that the Hoops may push to get the 24-year-old out of the final weeks of his current contract, meaning he would be able to join their New Year training camp when the Premiership stops for a winter break.

The Verdict: Smart thinking…

Hatate, who has scored 12 goals during his career, could prove to be a crucial member of Postecoglou’s squad due to his versatility, so looking to get a transfer completed before the New Year is a shrewd decision.

Leaving a move until the end of January would only increase the risk of Celtic missing out on the player, so even if Michael Nicholson has to get the chequebook out and pay a small fee, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Hatate can play as a left-back, on the wing or in a central or attacking midfield role, and maybe the Hoops could be about to land another fan favourite from Japan following on from Furuhashi.

“I can’t believe I have done that,” said an ecstatic Alfonso Thomas, who hit two boundaries in the last three deliveries of a thriller to steal and seal victory for Somerset. In a rollercoaster of a match, Somerset just about managed to hold their nerves courtesy a 50-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Thomas and James Hildreth to get past the line off the last ball of the match. The equation came down to five runs from three balls with one wicket left when Thomas sliced a full toss from Scott Styris – who had taken two wickets in the final over – to the deep point boundary before bringing up the win with another carve over point.It was a strange but extremely interesting chase, and one that seemed to derail at various points as wickets fell at regular intervals. Crucially, Somerset managed to find the odd big hit that always kept them in the hunt. Rain intervened for a while, forcing the captains to regularly check the Duckworth-Lewis equation, and the drama increased when Fidel Edwards was prevented from completing his last two overs after he slipped in two beamers.When the seventh wicket fell, Somerset still needed 55 from 37 balls but Thomas and Hildrith biffed a few boundaries against the spinners, who had done so well till then to get Deccan ahead, to get the equation down to 31 from 24. Deccan attacked with their seamers and Hildrith and Thomas started dealing in singles to slowly push Somerset ahead. The equation came down to nine from 10 balls after Thomas paddle-swept RP Singh over the short fine-leg fielder. Marcus Trescothick, playing his first game out of England in a while, fell after offering a fleeting glimpse of his talent with two crunchy upper cuts but some of the shots that followed his exit were almost needless: Zander de Bruyn attempted a thrash over covers and edged behind, Craig Kieswetter holed out to long-on, Peter Trego swung to deep midwicket, and even Justin Langer swatted a full delivery from well outside off to mid-on.Not that they could have done it in singles but the run rate was never so daunting that they had to go for desperate hits. Once the top order fell, the bottom half swung their bat but lost wickets regularly till Thomas and Hildreth chose to stamp their presence in the game. The platform was laid earlier by their bowlers, with Thomas playing his part with an economical spell. VVS Laxman starred for Deccan with an uncharacteristic knock but they lost the plot in the middle and needed Venugopal Rao to push them just past 150.You don’t use adjectives like hammer and clobber to describe shots from Laxman but tonight he almost batted with a touch of violence.
